Job Overview

Summary/Objective

The Process Engineer will be responsible for the design and optimization of systems and applications for cryogenics, clean energy, and industrial gases within the Energy Infrastructure and Strategic Projects team based in Houston, TX. This role requires strong technical, communication, and collaborative skills, so to develop winning designs for integrated systems, packaged products, and modularized turn-key projects. Success in the role is measured on system and cycle design, equipment sizing, and on the implementation of efficient and cost-effective processes.  Current focus is on CO2 systems for North and South American customers and on clean energy fuel systems spanning LNG, H2, and their derivatives.  Career growth is expected through influence on product offerings and impact to project execution. 

 

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities & Authorities:

 

Process Design and Optimization:

  • Lead the development and optimization of process cycles for clean energy and industrial gases.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, process simulations, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).

Equipment Sizing and Selection:

  • Calculate and determine the appropriate sizing for major equipment such as compressors, heat exchangers, distillation columns, and expansion turbines.
  • Specify and select suitable materials and equipment to meet process requirements and standards.

Technical Contributions:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation engineers to ensure cohesive project execution.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Coordinate the technical aspects of projects from conception to completion.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, operation manuals, and technical reports.
  • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.

Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
    • Stay updated with the latest technological advancements and industry trends in cryogenic processes and clean energy applications.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in process engineering including cryogenic and gaseous applications.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g.: Aspen HYSYS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team environment, fostering positive relationships and contributing to collective goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Highly detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy and quality in all tasks and deliverables.
  • Demonstrates reliability and timeliness in completing tasks and meeting deadlines

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities

 

Work Environment

This job will generally be performed in an office environment reporting to a senior team member but will require travel to other offices or CE&IG facilities in coordination with engineering and project teams.

 

Pay Range: 66k-117k (DOE).
