Job Overview

We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to be responsible for developing and finalizing detailed engineering drawings and documentation for projects in the US and Internationally. This role requires expertise in electrical design, adherence to international standards, and the ability to coordinate with global teams. The position includes generating comprehensive schematics, ensuring regulatory compliance, and producing supportive technical documentation. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, experience with industry-standard software, and the ability to manage complex projects, contributing to successful project execution from initial design through final documentation and handover.

  • Creating the following types of detailed drawings and component selection: 
    • Electrical schematics. 
    • Control panel layouts, list of materials, and junction boxes. 
    • Outline drawings and component details for electrical systems. 
    • Piping and instrument diagrams, mechanical drawings, and list of materials.
    • Details of machined parts for electrical systems. 
  • Selecting component parts and materials to be used in the above drawing types and creating parts lists for procurement. 
  • Testing and troubleshooting panels and control systems. 
  • Programing of PLC systems (Allen Bradley/Rockwell control platform, RS Logix programming software) 
  • Work with customers on integrating controls into their systems. 
  • Provide support in the field to help integration and installation of controls. 
  • Collaborate with mechanical and structural engineers to integrate electrical systems within overall project designs.
  • Participate in project kick-offs, design reviews, and progress meetings to provide technical insights and updates on design development.
  • Coordinate with the client and project management team, as needed, to address feedback, incorporate revisions, and meet all documentation requirements.
  • Ensure all designs conform to relevant international standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, NFPA, ATEX, CSA, UL and client-specific requirements, as well as comply with regional standards.
  • Remain up to date on changes in electrical codes and standards across the US and Internationally, implementing best practices and regulatory requirements in all designs.
  • Develop operation and maintenance manuals, testing procedures, and project reports to support commissioning and handover phases.
  • Review and finalize engineering drawings and documents for submission, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to client requirements.

  • Perform load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and other electrical assessments to validate design reliability and safety.
  • Utilize PLM and document management systems to track, manage, and update project documentation.
  • Conduct internal reviews and QA/QC checks of designs to identify potential issues or areas for improvement.
  • Assist in the checking of accuracy in drawings and list of materials created by other designers.
  • Support on-site teams during installation, providing design clarification and resolving technical queries as needed.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and optimizing electrical systems to meet project specifications and performance criteria.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a mentor to others in the department.

Qualifications

Work Environment

 

The employee must be able to sit, stand, or work at the computer for prolonged periods. The position supports operations in the manufacturing facility, which requires being on the shop floor for extended periods of time. Safety equipment must be utilized as specified to enter production areas. May be subject to hot and cold environments, loud noise, and typical manufacturing exposures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, and reach with hands and arms.

 

Travel

 

This role requires travel (approximately 10-25%) to Customers’ office or site, production facility, or industrial/construction job site.  Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.  This role requires a valid driver’s license, a valid US Passport for international travel, and the ability to obtain a TWIC card.

 

Physical Demands

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to sit, stand, or work at the computer for prolonged periods. PPE must be utilized as specified to enter production areas.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 year minimum electrical engineering experience in responsibilities listed below:
  • HVAC electrical engineering experience designing refrigeration and or chiller control systems is highly desirable.
  • Independently able to derive control logic from systems problem statements and integrate logic to achieve system control. This includes logic write-ups, flow charts, and programs.
  • Experience with large three phase electric motors or compressors, as well as electrical code.
  • Experience with multiple stage control logic including the integration of low voltage controls to high voltage controls as it relates to motor starters, fuse and circuit breaker protection of electric motor, compressors, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Ability to properly size and select electrical components for the project specification requirements based on the required codes by the project.
  • Use of the following engineering and design software:
  • Autodesk 2023 Inventor, AutoCAD, Electrical, P&ID, etc. SolidWorks not required but a plus.
  • PLM Software (ProductCenter), and ERP Software highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of PLC programing is required.
  • Allen Bradley/Rockwell RS Logix, Studio 5000, and control software experience is a plus

Salary Range : $83,821 - $118,707
