Job Overview

Nikkiso Fueling & Solutions division designs and constructs alternative fuel stations for fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), compressed natural gas (CNG) and hydrogen (H2). Typical projects involve reinforced concrete mat foundations, installation of 45 ft. vertical or horizontal storage vessels, cryogenic and high pressure systems, ASME B31.3 pipe welding, process system installation, and hazardous area (CL 1 Div. 1 & 2 Group B or D) electrical work. We have an immediate need to grow our team and are looking for a Certified Welding Inspector to support our large scale commercial projects in the rapidly growing alternative fuel market. Our projects are typically design/build projects. We self-perform all engineering and specialty construction. Because we have a reputation of getting the job done, we are requested to do unique, one-of-a-kind projects.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • All Duties/Skills/Responsibilities of a Senior Technician
  • Ensure that the fabricated steel will fit as planned, meets customer specifications, and inspections are completed as required to support workflow and sequence
  • Working knowledge of AMSE B31.1 Process Piping and Pressure Vessel code, NFPA – 59A codes and standards, and API - 1104
  • Ensure that accurate documentation is maintained on every project. Is responsible for assisting the Quality Control Manager in administering the ASME program
  • Ensures that all production-related employees understand and follow applicable ASME standards
  • Work closely with Production Supervisors, Engineers, and customer representatives to determine appropriate courses of action for resolution of defects
  • Communicates with fabrication employees daily
  • Provides assistance and/or training where appropriate, assists in counseling employees on improving quality through the Production Manager
  • Assists in identifying and solving quality non-conformances in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Carries out new project specifications
  • Manages welder certification program and ensures welders are tested per contract specification
  • Monitors established non-destructive testing programs, both internal and outsourced
  • Monitors internal testing program to include training, testing, and that NDT technician standards are met and documented
  • Keeps current on industry trends, innovations, and changes that may affect how we manufacture and service our products.
  • Maintain safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concerns.
  • Ability to write and communicate Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) per code requirements

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Organization and Attention to Detail:
  • A thorough understanding of various welding processes (TIG, MIG, SMAW, etc.) and the materials they are used on.
  • Code and Standard Expertise:
  • Familiarity with industry-standard welding codes like AWS, ASME, and API.
  • Nondestructive Testing (NDT):Proficiency in techniques such as radiography, ultrasonics, liquid penetrant, and magnetic particle testing.
  • Blueprint and Specification Interpretation:
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and project specifications.
  • Quality Evaluation:kill in assessing weld quality, identifying discontinuities and defects, and ensuring welds meet required standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Ability to prepare detailed and accurate inspection reports.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
  • Effective communication with welders, supervisors, and management is essential for project success.
  • Maintaining organized documentation and paying close attention to detail in weld inspections is crucial.

Education:

  • Associates degree in Welding Technology or related field preferred
  • Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (API 1104 and ASME BPVC Section IX Process (B31.3) Piping preferred), or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire
  • Level II MT, PT, UT certifications preferred, but not necessary
  • Five or more recent years’ experience in process pipe fabrication
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and Weld symbols
  • In depth understanding of blueprint drawing and shop drawings
  • Advanced math skills
  • Have professional demeanor and appearance
  • Able to analyze complex problems and contribute to generating solutions
  • Deal effectively with time pressures, long hours, rapidly changing priorities, and stress
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive (may require some travel to job site)
  • Must have a good track record of conducting business honestly and ethically
  • Strong computer literacy skills with MS Office (Excel, Outlook and Word)
  • Excellent organization and communication skills – both written and oral
