Job Overview

The Environmental, health, and Safety (EHS) specialist position participates in and supports initiatives related to the safety, health, and environmental requirements for the facility and that of all employees. The position assists to ensure all employees are trained in safety components relating to their position. The specialist reports to the General Manager and works to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations for all employees, equipment, and operations. This role is tasked with reducing workers’ compensation exposure through accident investigation and proactive accident reduction techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in driving a safety-first culture across all departments.
  • Conducts routine audits to identify and drive improvements.
  • Conducts and tracks safety training and demonstrates the use of safety equipment.
  • Supports the implementation of safety and accident prevention policies in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Evaluates workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Ensures that al employees, temporary workers, contractors, etc. adhere to safety requirements including the use of required protective equipment is used for assigned tasks.
  • Conducts safety training and demonstrates the use of safety equipment.
  • Investigates accidents to identify cause and determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
  • Serves in an advisory capacity to management and liaison with OSHA inspections and correspondence or with other department/entities (internal or external) as required.
  • Represents the company, as requested, in community and industry safety groups, programs, and conferences.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments of training, safety, and accident prevention programs.
  • Maintains records and assembling reports on lost time accidents.
  • Supports the implementation and oversight of hazardous material control.
  • Domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 2 years of equivalent education/safety experience. 
  • Related safety engineering certifications.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft programs (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Prior use of injury reporting system and metric tracking.
  • Proactive, Initiative taking.
  • Technical Capacity.
  • Organizational Skills.
  • Strategic Thinking.
  • Problem Solving/Analysis.
