Job Overview

The Product Design Engineer V is responsible for providing consultation in one or more areas of project design, equipment engineering systems and improvements to existing products in accordance with department procedures. The Product Design Engineer V is recognized as a technical leader and resource by recommending alterations and enhancements to improve the quality of products and/or procedures.   Works in collaboration with other departments in order to ensure final products in accordance with customer specification and NCI procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Model in SolidWorks Pump components
  • Size and select system components.
  • Design components and systems within the pump product line including:
  • Support design and product development
  • Develop an understanding the customer needs and translating them into functional engineering solutions to design better products and systems.
  • Assist the efforts in creation of specifications, design, and test methods for the new products
  • Interface with the manufacturing associates on a frequent basis to provide technical guidance on issues that affect DFMA, manufacturing capability and rate of the NEW product in the pipeline
  • Facilitate studies and research - to develop scope definition, design response correlations and design solutions
  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert
  • Resolve complex engineering problems in a timely manner
  • Ensures effective communication within the team and between the team and the rest of the organization
  • Actively manages the timeline along with project manager/ project engineer and ensures there is clarity and focus on the critical path and that appropriate contingency plans are in place

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, including fundamental knowledge in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
  • Technical Degree in Mechanical Design & Drafting.
  • Experience working in an engineering, manufacturing, and test environment.
  • High level of expertise and experience utilizing SolidWorks for 3-D modeling and 2-D detailing of components & assemblies for large, complex systems.
  • Fifteen years experience in a systems engineering and manufacturing environment, designing rotating and reciprocating equipment.
  • Proficiency is scientific computing, finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, rotor dynamics.

Work Environment

 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop computers and photocopiers.

 

Physical Demands

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Requires ability to use a computer, type on keypad, and answer phones.
